melakukan pemecatan atas 5,000 karyawannya. Dalam sebuah emailnya untuk
karyawannya, Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft telah membuka pintu yang
lebar untuk mengadakan pemecatan lebih banyak. “Sebagai langkah
selanjutnya, kami akan melanjutkan untuk menutup impact dari kondisi
ekonomi yang memburuk, dan jika perlu, kami akan melakukan aksi
pemotongan cost structural, termasuk mengeliminasi pekerjaan
tambahan.” tulis Ballmer dalam emailnya.

Ketika Microsoft
mengumumkan pemecatan karyawannya di bulan Januari lalu, perusahaan
raksasa pembuat software tersebut kemudian segera merumahkan 1,400
posisi, dan berlanjut hingga 3,600 orang dalam periode 18 bulan.
Setelah membuat pernyataan tersebut, Ballmer benar-benar telah
merumahkan total 5,000 karyawannya.

Microsoft mengungkapkan
bahwa karyawan yang terkena imbas dari pemecatan besar-besaran ini akan
di-split antara karyawan di U.S dan negara lainnya. Sementara itu, di
Inggris sekitar 150 pekerja akan kehilangan pekerjaan mereka, dengan
prosentase 5 persen dari seluruh pekerja yang bekerja di sana. Namun,
Microsoft juga tidak menyebutkan secara rinci mengenai lokasi atau
produk grup yang terkena imbas aksi Microsoft ini.

Setelah
pemecatan tersebut, menurut Yahoo News, Microsoft berencana akan
mengadakan rekrutmen besar-besaran untuk 2,000 hingga 3,000 karyawan
baru di Microsoft antara tahun ini hingga pertengahan tahun 2010
